I am considering Kars 4 Kids for donating my used car to them.  Could you tell me more about them and what they do?

Kars 4 Kids is the car donation program that benefits J.O.Y. (Joy for Our Youth).  Joy for Our Youth focuses on kids from impoverished or dysfunction families who otherwise are at risk of destructive behaviors due to the great challenges they need to overcome.  Kars4Kids and J.O.Y. help provide the children with an environment of stability, warmth, and success to combat the challenges of depression, failure, or socializing that they might face.  Kars4Kids and J.O.Y. attempts to tackle the challenges and effects on children facing family dysfunction, family strain, immigration from impoverished nations, family unemployment, and parental divorce.

Instead of addressing only their target help sector of the at risk Jewish youth, Kars4Kids and J.O.Y. also help with the families so they do they do not remain mired in difficulties with rent or keeping food on teh table.  They also take the long term angle with the families as well and not just donating food and money to them; Kars4Kids and J.O.Y. help address their difficulties from each way possible and partner with them to help ensure the lifetime success of their kids.  Kars 4 Kids remain in contact and follow up with the kids and families until they are grown up and have families of their own.

Kars 4 Kids and J.O.Y. funds programs such as summer camps, counseling, guidance, family retreats, family financial assistance, holiday celebrations, mentoring, food and gift packages, homework help, school tutoring, clothing donation, family retreats, and mentoring and education for the adults and parents of the family. Through all their programs and help, Kars 4 Kids and J.O.Y. really provide a sense of warmth and community care and involvement to these children and their families.

What types of a vehicles are accepted by Kars 4 Kids as vehicle donations?

Kars4Kids will accept cars, motorcycles, boats, RVs, trucks, trailers, vans, jet skis, buses, snowmobiles, and any other type of vehicle that you may have. Most of these vehicles will be accepted regardless of their condition (whether running or not), as long as they have some value that exceeds the processing costs of towing and selling the vehicle.

Can I still donate to Kars 4 Kids if I do not have my car’s title?

Yes, Kars 4 Kids will probably have to do more paperwork if you do not have your title, but as long as the car has a clean title and is free of liens they will still happily accept your donation.  Be sure to contact them online or on the phone and the Kars4Kids customer service will help you through the process.

What kind of a tax deduction do I get with a car donation to Kars 4 Kids?

The rule that you should be aware of is that the IRS will allow you to claim up to $500 for the fair value of the vehicle.  If the value of the car or vehicle donated to Kars 4 Kids exceeds $500, then you can claim the amount that Kars4Kids sells the car for. (they will provide you with the necessary receipt and documentation.)  Also be aware that you would need to itemize your deductions for your tax return to claim this tax benefit.
